CPL 2027 schedule windows host rotation CWI plan 2027

The CPL 2027 schedule, currently under development by the Caribbean Premier League board in consultation with the CWI, is being built around an MLC window-protection compromise. Guyana Amazon Warriors are set to host a double-round at home, the host rotation policy is being clarified for the next three cycles, and broadcaster pressure has shaped several of the calendar choices. The full schedule is expected to be published in late July 2026.
Fixture grid
The CPL 2027 group stage is provisionally scheduled to run from late August through early October 2027, an eight-week block. Six teams play each other twice in a home-and-away format, with each team playing 10 league fixtures. The knockouts are scheduled across the second week of October, with the eliminator and qualifier matches on rest-day-protected dates. The final is at the home venue of the top-finishing side. Each team has at least one double-round at a home venue, with the Guyana Amazon Warriors hosting two double-rounds in the current draft. Trinbago Knight Riders host the second of the marquee double-round windows. The schedule has been built to give the broadcasters a clear calendar of marquee fixtures, with the Guyana vs Trinbago and St Lucia Kings vs Barbados Royals matches highlighted as priority broadcast slots.
Why it is unusual
The 2027 edition has three structural features worth noting. First, the MLC window-protection compromise. The CPL has agreed with Major League Cricket to maintain a clear separation between the two leagues, with no overlap between the CPL group stage and the MLC playoff. This protects player availability and prevents broadcaster fragmentation in the North American market. Second, the host rotation policy is being formalised to ensure that each franchise hosts a fixture against every other franchise within a two-cycle rotation. Previous CPL cycles have had uneven host distribution, which has been a source of franchise complaint. Third, the broadcaster has pushed for the final to be hosted at a fixed venue rather than the home of the top-finishing side, with St Lucia and Trinbago being the two candidates. The CWI has resisted this push but is in active discussion.
Scheduling tension
The biggest scheduling tension is between the CPL window and the West Indies international calendar. The CWI has been balancing the West Indies senior team's bilateral series against the franchise commitments of the senior players. The compromise has been that no senior West Indies players are required for international duty during the CPL group stage, and the bilateral series scheduled in the period have been moved to either side of the eight-week window. The other scheduling tension is with the Hundred and the Lanka Premier League, which have their own windows competing for global player attention. The CPL has historically had a slot that does not overlap with the Hundred, but the LPL has been pushing closer to the CPL window in recent cycles. Who benefits and who loses
The franchises that benefit from the 2027 schedule are the ones that host double-rounds at home venues. Guyana Amazon Warriors gain the most because the Providence Stadium is one of the higher-capacity venues in the league. Trinbago benefit from the second double-round at Queen's Park Oval. The franchises that lose are those whose home venues have not been allocated double-rounds in the current draft, which forces them into more travel and reduces home-fan engagement. The wider effect on West Indies cricket is positive because the CPL is now the principal commercial product for the CWI, and the schedule clarification gives broadcasters and sponsors a longer planning horizon. The MLC window protection also benefits the senior West Indies players who are CPL-contracted, because their workload is more predictable. What to watch
Three things to watch through the development. First, the host rotation policy publication. The CWI has signalled that the policy will include a multi-cycle commitment, which gives franchises certainty about future host allocations. Second, the broadcaster discussions on the final venue. The current draft has the final at the top-finishing team's home venue, but the broadcaster pressure may force a compromise. Third, the LPL window negotiations. The CPL board is in active discussion with the LPL board to maintain the separation between the two leagues, but the discussion is at an early stage. The wider effect on the cricket calendar in 2027 will be on player availability for cross-league commitments. Several West Indies players are now contracted across CPL, MLC, and overseas T20 leagues, and the window structure determines how their year is sequenced.
