India Women's T20 World Cup 2026 squad will be the most scrutinised home-tournament selection in women's cricket history. Harmanpreet Kaur captains. Smriti Mandhana opens. Beyond those two locks, every other slot has at least two credible candidates. Here is the 15-player shortlist that selectors are working with.

Top order — Mandhana and the opening partner

Smriti Mandhana opens. Her T20I strike rate since 2024 sits at 134, with an average above 38. The opening partner is the question. Shafali Verma has the power game, but her last 12 T20I innings have a strike rate of 118. Yastika Bhatia offers control. Jemimah Rodrigues could move up. The selectors will likely lock Shafali for the powerplay, with Bhatia as backup.

Middle order — Harmanpreet, Jemimah, Richa Ghosh

Harmanpreet Kaur at four is the spine. Jemimah Rodrigues at three or five is the strike-rotation specialist. Richa Ghosh at six is the finisher — her T20I strike rate of 142 against death-overs pace is the highest in the squad. The selection question is whether Deepti Sharma bats at seven or eight.

Allrounder — Deepti, Vastrakar, Sneh Rana

Deepti Sharma is the lead off-spin allrounder. Pooja Vastrakar is the seam-bowling allrounder, but her fitness through the home season is the bubble call. Sneh Rana provides spin-bowling depth and lower-order resilience. All three likely make the 15, but only two play.

Spin attack — Deepti, Sneh Rana, Radha Yadav

Indian conditions in September-October favour spin. Deepti and Sneh Rana are the front-line off-spin pair. Radha Yadav is the left-arm orthodox option. Shreyanka Patil is the wrist-spin variation. The selectors will pick three of these four — likely Deepti, Sneh Rana and Shreyanka.

Pace attack — Renuka, Vastrakar, Pooja Vastrakar workload

Renuka Singh is the new-ball specialist with her late-swinging line. Pooja Vastrakar is the death-overs option. Titas Sadhu is the third seamer. Arundhati Reddy provides the swing variation. The four-seamer plan probably picks Renuka, Vastrakar, Titas, and Arundhati as backup.

The 15-player shortlist

The likely 15 — Harmanpreet (c), Mandhana, Shafali, Bhatia, Jemimah, Richa (wk), Deepti, Sneh Rana, Shreyanka, Radha, Renuka, Titas, Vastrakar, Arundhati, Uma Chetry (reserve keeper). The omitted bubble — Saika Ishaque, Minnu Mani, Kanika Ahuja.

Build-up tour fixtures

IND-W tour England in June 2026, host Sri Lanka in July 2026, play the Women's Asia Cup in August 2026, host England-W in September 2026. The September England series is the dress rehearsal. The Asia Cup is where the No. 3, the second spinner and the death seamer get tested.

What to watch next: IND-W vs ENG-W tour September 2026 and the Asia Cup 2026 August selection finale.
