PSL 2026 Season Statistical Post-Mortem: Orange and Purple Cap Leaders

PSL 2026 ended with Peshawar Zalmi as champions, Hyderabad Kingsmen as runners-up, and a crop of statistical leaders that will reshape the 2027 auction. This post-mortem covers the orange-cap chase, the purple-cap battle, the dot-ball and boundary leaders, and team-level NRR. The data is from the full league plus playoffs.
Top 5 run-scorers
| Batter | Team | Runs | SR | 50s |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Saim Ayub | Hyderabad Kingsmen | 612 | 154 | 6 |
| Babar Azam | Peshawar Zalmi | 548 | 138 | 5 |
| Mohammad Rizwan | Multan Sultans | 502 | 132 | 4 |
| Sahibzada Farhan | Karachi Kings | 478 | 144 | 4 |
| Quinton de Kock | Hyderabad Kingsmen | 412 | 138 | 3 |
Saim Ayub took the orange cap by a clear margin and added the Player of the Tournament award. Babar Azam was the best of the captains. Notably, no overseas batter outside Hyderabad cracked the top five.
Top 5 wicket-takers
| Bowler | Team | Wickets | Economy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shadab Khan | Hyderabad Kingsmen | 19 | 7.4 |
| Naseem Shah | Islamabad United | 18 | 7.1 |
| Mehidy Hasan Miraz | Hyderabad Kingsmen | 17 | 6.9 |
| Aaron Hardie | Peshawar Zalmi | 16 | 7.6 |
| Salman Mirza | Peshawar Zalmi | 15 | 7.3 |
Shadab Khan won the purple cap. Naseem Shah was the season's best new-ball bowler at an economy that started with a 7. Aaron Hardie's 16 wickets undersells his impact โ four of them came in the final.
Dot-ball and boundary leaders
The best dot-ball percentage among regular bowlers (minimum 30 overs) was Mehidy Hasan Miraz at 41.2%. The best boundary percentage (minimum 250 balls faced) was Saim Ayub at 18.7% โ nearly one boundary every five balls. Both numbers stood up across phases, not just powerplay or death.
Team-level net run rate
| Team | Played | Won | Lost | NRR |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Multan Sultans | 12 | 9 | 3 | +1.21 |
| Hyderabad Kingsmen | 12 | 8 | 4 | +0.84 |
| Peshawar Zalmi | 12 | 7 | 5 | +0.62 |
| Islamabad United | 12 | 7 | 5 | +0.45 |
Multan Sultans actually had the best NRR but exited in the eliminator. Peshawar Zalmi finished third on the league table by points and NRR, then ran the table through the playoffs โ an underdog champion by the regular-season standard.
MVP differential pick
Pure stats say Saim Ayub. Differential value โ runs scored above team-mate average plus wickets above team-mate average โ gives Aaron Hardie. The all-rounder picked up wickets at almost the same rate as Shadab Khan while batting at a strike rate near 150. He is the cleanest MVP if you weight finals.
Surprise packages and underperforming names
Surprise packages: Reeza Hendricks (318 runs in 14 matches off the back of being a back-up signing), Salman Mirza (15 wickets at economy 7.3 in his second PSL), and Sahibzada Farhan (career-best 478 runs).
Underperforming big names: Mohammad Haris (148 runs in 11 innings), Faheem Ashraf (8 wickets in 12 matches), and Imam-ul-Haq (203 runs at SR 109). All three will go into the 2027 auction at lower base prices.
