The ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 fixture-by-day grid has been published in full operational form. The tournament is co-hosted by South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe โ the second southern African staging of the senior 50-over World Cup after the 2003 edition. The fixture grid, the venue map, the opening weekend and the knockout windows have all been confirmed by the ICC. Reading them together gives the full picture of how the 2027 tournament will run.
The tournament window and format
CWC 2027 runs from October 14, 2027, to November 26, 2027 โ a 44-day tournament window. The format is the established 14-team competition with two groups of seven, a Super Six stage with the top three from each group advancing, two semi-finals and a final. The total fixture count is 54 matches: 42 group stage, 12 Super Six, two semi-finals and the final.
The venue map
The tournament uses eight venues across the three host nations. South Africa contributes five venues: the Wanderers (Johannesburg), Newlands (Cape Town), SuperSport Park (Centurion), Kingsmead (Durban) and St George's Park (Port Elizabeth). Namibia contributes the Wanderers Cricket Ground (Windhoek). Zimbabwe contributes Harare Sports Club and Queens Sports Club (Bulawayo). The Wanderers (Johannesburg) hosts the final and one semi-final; the second semi-final is at Newlands.
The opening weekend
The tournament opens on October 14, 2027, with a Group A fixture at the Wanderers, Johannesburg. The opening weekend has four fixtures across the three host nations: the opening fixture at the Wanderers, a Group A fixture at SuperSport Park, a Group B fixture at Newlands and a Group B fixture at Harare Sports Club. The opening weekend traditionally sets the broadcast tone for the tournament and the opening-fixture is the marquee broadcast slot.
The group stage structure
Each group plays a round-robin format with each team playing the other six in the group. Total fixtures per group: 21 fixtures. Group A and Group B run concurrently across the same 24-day window. Each team has a minimum of two rest days between fixtures and a maximum of five. The fixture cadence is two to three group-stage matches per day across the tournament window.
The Super Six stage
The Super Six stage runs across 9 days following the group stage. The top three teams from each group advance, with the carry-forward points format applied. Each team plays three further fixtures, against the three qualifiers from the other group. The Super Six is hosted across the South Africa venues primarily, with one fixture allocated to Harare Sports Club.
The knockout windows
The two semi-finals are played on consecutive days at the Wanderers and Newlands. The final is at the Wanderers on November 26, 2027 โ the Sunday before the start of the southern African summer holiday window. The reserve day is built into the schedule for both semi-finals and the final.
Qualification: how the 14 teams are confirmed
The 14-team field is confirmed through three qualification pathways. First, the top 8 finishers from the previous CWC 2023 are direct qualifiers โ India, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, Pakistan, Afghanistan, England and Bangladesh. Second, the host nation qualification rule provides slots for South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe โ though South Africa qualifies on the direct route anyway, Namibia and Zimbabwe get host qualification. Third, the remaining three slots are determined through the CWC 2027 Qualifier tournament involving WCL2 nations, the bottom CWC 2023 qualifiers and other Test-playing nations.
The squad announcement window
ICC squad announcement deadlines are 28 days before the opening fixture, with squad changes permitted up to 7 days before. Most nations have indicated squad announcement windows in mid-September 2027. The 15-player squad cap, with three travelling reserves, is the established format. Replacement players for injury are subject to the ICC technical committee's approval.
The broadcast and ticket picture
The CWC 2027 broadcast rights have been allocated by the ICC for the cycle. The marquee fixtures โ opening match, India fixtures, semi-finals and final โ carry the highest broadcast value. Ticket sales open in tiered windows starting January 2027, with the marquee fixtures' tickets opening in February 2027. Pricing tiers run from entry-level access at USD 8 for group-stage non-marquee matches to higher tiers for the final and semi-finals.
What to watch across the tournament
The opening fixture sets the tone. The group-stage clashes between India, Australia, South Africa and Pakistan will be the most-watched broadcast windows. The structural watch is how the southern African hosting performs operationally โ venue infrastructure, crowd attendance, broadcast coordination โ across the 44-day window. A clean operational performance would set the foundation for future southern African tournament allocations.
