The Asia Cup 2027 qualifier round runs February 8 to February 21, 2027 across Malaysia and Thailand. Eight associate-tier Asian sides fight for two senior Asia Cup 2027 slots. The senior Asia Cup 2027 has six guaranteed slots — India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and one host pick. The qualifier produces the other two. Here is the format and fixture decode.
Tournament window
February 8 to February 21, 2027. The two finals are February 20 and 21. Both go through to the senior Asia Cup 2027 in August-September 2027.
Host countries — Malaysia and Thailand
Malaysia hosts at Kuala Lumpur (Bayuemas Oval) and Kinrara Academy Oval. Thailand hosts at Bangkok (Asian Institute of Technology Ground). Three venues total. The split is for broadcast diversification and ACC funding distribution.
The eight teams
Group A — UAE, Hong Kong, Oman, Kuwait. Group B — Nepal, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Bhutan. Each team plays the others in the group. Top two from each group advance to the semi-finals. The two finalists from each semi qualify for the senior Asia Cup 2027.
Format
T20 format. League stage of 12 matches across nine days. Top two from each group advance to two semi-finals. The two semi-finalists from each side qualify for the senior Asia Cup. The two losing semi-finalists play a third-place playoff (no qualification stakes).
Dark horses
UAE leads the qualifier favourites. They have hosted Asia Cup multiple times and have professional cricket infrastructure. Nepal is the second favourite, with three teams from the 2023 Asia Cup direct qualification cycle. Hong Kong and Oman have been on the rise, with the UAE pace stocks improving.
Senior Asia Cup 2027 stakes
The two qualifying sides join the senior Asia Cup 2027 in August-September 2027 (Sri Lanka hosts). The Asia Cup 2027 format is eight teams — two groups of four, super-four, then final. The qualifiers will be the seeded fourth slot in each group.
Indian player release
For the senior Asia Cup 2027, the BCCI has confirmed full release of all internationals. The qualifier is purely associate-tier, so no Indian release is involved. The BCCI's funding share of the qualifier is approximately $1.5M.
Broadcast deal
The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) holds the global rights for the qualifier. Sony Sports for the Indian market. Streaming on FanCode for South Asia. Free streaming on the ACC app for the qualifier's ten matches. The senior Asia Cup 2027 broadcast is separately tendered.
